Hi all. Hope the summer was kind to your bees and you have got a decent crop of honey from them this year!
I would like to invite you to our first post-summer meeting of 2025. It will be held at the Westport Teagasc Centre on Tuesday September 2nd and will commence at 8.00 pm.
The first confirmed Asian hornet’s nest in Ireland was found at a location on the southside of Cork city in the South of Ireland. This will be amongst the topics we will discuss and our responsibility to try stop the spread of this pest throughout the country.
If Asian hornets were to spread across Ireland it will be a “disaster” for bees and biodiversity in general. A government taskforce has been established to coordinate the response to the recent sightings, and the public is urged to be vigilant and report any suspected Asian hornet sightings with a photograph to the National Biodiversity Data Centre to help contain the invasive species and protect Irish biodiversity.
Afterwards, we will have the usual cuppa and an opportunity to catch up on the happenings of the Summer!
Looking forward to seeing you then.
