Remembering the Day at Ryan’s Apairy

06/06/2011

Remembering the day at Ryan’s Apiary, thanks to all our members who provided images of how rewarding the day was.

The Day in Ryan’s Apiary, Tipperary, June 2011.

Thank you.

A very special word of thanks to Gerry and Mary Ryan who made their apiary available to the “Westport Beekeeper’s Association” for the practical section of the Preliminary Exam. With the help of their family they provided refreshments both on arrival and at lunch time. Their generosity knew no bounds. A few people around anybody’s home can be stressful, but a bus load must be daunting!

We would also like say a special thank you to Jim Ryan and Redmond Williams who assisted with the examinations. Subsequent to the exam and specifically for the benefit of the beginners, Gerry, Jim and Redmond carried out an inspection of two hives on which they provided a running commentary. Their level of expertise and the ease with which they worked the bees amazed the eager spectators. (But for the mesh headgear our mouths would be full of bees!)

On the way home every person on the bus was swapping the gems of information that they had picked up with the person beside or around them. For some it was their first time getting their hands into the middle of a bee hive – ‘a scary experience!’ ! No doubt, ‘The Day we spent in Ryan’s Apiary’ will be the topic of conversation for a long time to come.
